A Hickory theme, commonly known as Oshkosh, in a canvas woven in France.
This canvas appeared in the late 19th century in the United States, on the overalls of railroad workers, and has two qualities: it's sturdy, and its striped pattern hides grease stains. So it was quickly used for children's wear and became a classic. So much so that today it evokes more of a seaside imagery for us.
